Shaming Yellowstone

1/10/11 Today’s highlights included a short hike through verdant jungle to Tutea’s falls. Steep stairs had been hewn through the rock wall bordering  the falls to a small cave which was once a refuge for Maori women and children. Jealously we saw an adventure group jump into the water with sledges and ride rapids downstream.

In the afternoon, we visited Wai-O-Tapu, an incredible geothermal wonderland, where we enjoyed several hours of hiking among bubbling cauldrons of mud and vibrantly colored pools, tinted with different minerals.
